I have a Brewtus 2 and it only has one pipe going into the reservoir. I think 
the return feeds back into the system and not the reservoir. Anyway, I took the 
softener off as the water I'm using is filtered & the softener was also 
dropping it's silicone balls into the reservoir. My machine has worked 
perfectly since I took it off.
