Thanks everyone for all the answers! With the cartridge removed, its tube now proves to be much shorter than the second one - so contrary to being afraid it could be sucked to the bottom, i´m actually getting paranoid about checking the tank´s water level (i´d say the tank´s location "under the hood" is the machine´s only minus at this point). Notching the tube is a good idea, since i´ll definitely forget which length was the intake.
