I do have a voltmeter

As far as I am aware the pid not lighting up is the only problem, but i don't 
think the brew boiler will not heat up unless the pid is on and telling the 
brew boiler to heat as it is not at the right temperature.

When the pid comes on (which should come on as soon as the machine is turned 
on, cold or hot) it shows the water to one around 30 degree centigrade, which I 
believe has got a bit of warmth from the steam boiler.

When the pid is on it works as normal and can be left on all day running 
problem free if required
