Sorry about the confusion. I think of the screen as just, well, the screen itself not what it is attached to. But let me restate things with the proper terminology.

The screen is a bit loose when there is no gasket. That is, I can fully insert the screen and then slide it back and forth. Not too far, but there is slack there.

The gasket was inserted with beveled side up.

That gasket and screen were installed about 2 weeks ago and I lived with the handle at 7:30 to see if it would gradually seat fully but I didn't notice any change after that time.

I used a portafilter without basket to push the gasket up as far as I could. Then I added the basket to the portafilter and pushed again with it. (When I say "push" I mean that I inserted the portafilter and rotated it with the wings in their slots.

The previous time that I inserted this new gasket and screen I applied plenty of force with all kinds of blunt instruments but nothing would make it budge.

The machine works and does not leak. I was hoping for something closer to 6 o'clock though.

Thanks for your reply.

P.S. Just reread your message and I think you are using the words basket and screen interchangeably, which leads to a little bit of confusion. The basket is where your coffee goes; the screen is the piece that sits between the group and the gasket and helps distribute water across the top of the coffee more evenly.

You may have therefore meant that the screen was loose in the group and not fitted well to the group itself; if that is true, you may be correct that it is not the correct size. However, if the gasket fits properly against the screen flare as I described in my first email, I think that the parts are probably okay and you just need a little more pressure to push things up into the group. Having the handle at 7:30 after putting in a new gasket is not unusual; As the gasket seats fully and wears a little bit the handle will come to 6 o'clock.

The gasket must be around the screen before installation. Look at the gasket and you will see that one side has a beveled edge on the inner diameter. That beveled edge sits against the flare of your screen sides. So, with the screen facing in its correct orientation, the beveled edge of the gasket should be up (towards the top of the machine). At that point you can push the whole assembly up into the group, and then use the porta filter to seat that the rest of the way. It may take a couple of pushes on the gasket with something blunt to get it in far enough the let the PF ears grab the group to seat it. To that end, take the basket out of the PF at first to get your first "push" on the gasket, then the add the basket back for the second/final "push".

You described the gasket being loose in the group without the screen; that would be normal because the screen fits between the gasket and the group and acts a a sort of shim.

Hope this helps.

I recently purchased a replacement 8mm gasket and screen for my Brewtus IV-R. The gasket is stamped "Brewtus" and 8mm so I know it is the part I wanted. But I am unable to properly seat the gasket. The porta-filter arm is at about the 7:30 position and the gasket is not flush with the housing.

I tried inserting the gasket without the basket and it fits perfectly. Also, outside of the brew group, the gasket fits over the basket without problem.

If I insert the basket into the group head, I notice that I can slide it back and forth a little bit. That is, the basket is not a form fit.

I suspect that the basket is just slightly too large and is preventing the gasket from compressing enough to fit. But that's all it is, a suspicion.

Anyone have any advice? I hate to buy another screen and/or gasket if I will just end up with the same problem.

Btw, I purchased both the Brewtus and these replacement parts from the Canadian distributor.

Thanks
