Lisa,  if your purchase was made using a credit card, many cards have as one of 
their "features" that they provide an automatic extension of the original 
warranty ... up to one year, or double the original warranty, whichever is 
shorter.

This service is provided via a third party company that takes the risk.  You 
have to call your card company, who confirms the benefit and gives you a phone 
number.  You call that number and the company assigns you a claim number, sends 
you forms, and gives you their web site where you can download copies.  You 
usually have 90 days from the date of failure to submit your claim with proof 
of: 1. purchase date, 2. failure, 3.cost of repair and 4. payment for repair or 
replacement.  I went through the maze for a PC ... Things that cost several 
thousand dollars occasionally break in year two.  It is not common, but it does 
happen for every brand.
