Actually, still thinking this through. Did you say that the gfi popped right away, even when the machine was cold, with normal wiring hookups? And only popped when brew was connected and steam disconnected, but not the other way around?
What’s going through my head is whether the brew circuit would have power when the machine is cold, i.e. if you put the brew wires on steam element and it didn’t trip cold, I wonder if there’s still a chance that it will trip when hot. But, if the machine tripped cold with normal wiring, and doesn’t with reversed wiring, I think you’re good.
