Thanks Ira. I'm down to 2 machines, the new hottop that should be available late november or the quest m3 which is available now from coffeeshrub. I know that there are options to make the quest more automatic. I'm only using about a pound of coffee a week so I won't be roasting multiple batches at the same time. I read somewhere that you could damage the quest if you only roast one batch at the time. I'm also wondering if it would be easier to get repeatable results with the hottop because of being able to use artisan to profile and a pc to control the roast. I don't have a problem purchasing now or waiting and Ben has kindly offered to loan me his hottop for a few months if I want to use it. I enjoy tinkering on things and I love to improve on things so I know I will enjoy chasing the perfect cup. That said at some point it might be nice to have things a bit more automated but if that comes at the expense of taste I'd never be satisfied with it. I also know I won't be satisfied if I can't produce better espresso than what I'm buying every week from counter culture. I think if I make small, half-pound, batches twice a week I could keep fresh coffee and be better satisfied than I am now. I hope all of this makes sense.
