I think I know what your problem is; I haven't read the old thread, but from 
memory I think you asked about part 6 or 2 and I may have said it was a flare 
fitting that seals by compression with the female part. 

Unfortunately, in this particular case, it doesn't. The thin nuts are called 
jam nuts--since you need these parts to go together in a particular 
orientation, the purpose of the jam nut is to hold the other parts together in 
a given orientation since they don't get tightened down all the way. In other 
words, you screw the two pieces together until they are in the position you 
want, and then using two wrenches, you hold the female part and tighten the jam 
nut against the female so the male and female can't rotate out of position 
relative to one another again later. 

As you have probably guessed, since the male part doesn't bottom out against a 
matching female flare, you must seal the threads somehow. Either with teflon 
tape, or with the food grade liquid from Todd. I like the liquid, but it sets 
really fast so you have to mark parts with sharpie pen, etc because you won't 
have time to figure it out once you put the sealant on. In your case, consider 
using teflon tape; just be sure no stray bits are in or over the end of the 
male part or they'll wind up in the machine later. I would try about 5 wraps of 
the tape and assemble; it should be snug. If not, try again with more wraps. 

I'm sorry if my advice led you astray in this case; it of course wasn't my 
intention. I'm frequently working from memory, and that is definitely less than 
reliable these days!!!
