I am getting closer. Figured out some things and now have some new
challenges. I thought I may as well try the source and talk to Chris
Coffee, where I bought the joysticks in the first place. I've heard they
are helpful and those rumours are true.

Fortunately, I took a video of it leaking before disassembling the
connection. Chris Coffee suggested it was not the flare end that was
leaking at all but rather, the connection from the adapter to the joystick
itself. I did use teflon tape on the threads but probably not enough. I
only put one wrap on it which is perhaps why it lasted a while (a year) but
no longer.

So, putting it back together with a more enthusiastic use of teflon tape
might solve all the problems.

However...and there is always a however.

The small copper washer (see photo of the Joystick Adapter kit) is damaged
beyond reuse.Chris Coffee called it a 'crush washer' and is intended to do
just that, crush upon tightening to create the seal. Chris also agreed that
teflon tape wouldn't help in this case.

I need to find a replacement washer of that size and shape. Home Depot
(Canada) doesn't have them and it will be a few months yet before the new
Lowes store is due open in Winnipeg (assuming they even carry things like
that).

So I do have a plan and as is common, the gating item is finding the right
parts.
