Your experience sounds just like what I'm going through as well with my 
Brewtus III.  Same symptoms, flashing firmware that then stabilizes when 
the machine heats up.  The issue started for me when a pressure stat failed 
and tons of steam was vented into the machine case last November.  While it 
looks bad, it's been functional for nearly a year this way, the only real 
operational problem is that it's been impossible for me to switch the PID 
over to Fahrenheit for some reason.  

However, I noticed my warm up time has been getting progressively longer in 
the last month or so (now takes roughly 45 min when it used to take 25 +/-) 
so I just ordered a new PID.  Haven't had time to install it yet, but 
hoping to get to it this weekend.  I'll update this thread when I get a 
chance to change it out.
