I realize that this thread is old and dead, but the question lives on. Yes, the non-pid controller is still available. My Brewtus 2 is more than 10 years old, and although I love the PID option it is pretty pricey. When the temperature controller died I found a replacement AKO controller for about 1/12 of the price of the PID kit here in Canada. I did the PID thing with my Silvia many years ago, but Brewtus, with practice and help on line produces fabulous shots.
