I re-compiled the kernel without the Netfilter debugging option. It is
working great. Thanks for the reply :)
I am beginning to get the feeling I cannot use interfaces in the rules
for iptables. I can do pretty much the same thing with destination and
source IP's but incoming interfaces would be extremely helpful. Oh
well, I can still get what I need done. I just have to do a little more
work.
Thanks to everyone who is helping on this mailing list.

it is probably logging by the kernel. I had a similar problem, whereby
I
was flooded by logged packets on the console of my firewall...
If you run klogd, configure it to reduce the level of kernel logs that
get
printed on the active console. There is a command line option to do
that.
If you (like me) do not run klogd (I use syslog-ng), then you can act
on
pseudo-file /proc/sys/kernel/printk to achieve the same result. Then
you
should be able to use your console again, at least. As a second step,
try
to understand where these messages come from, and resolve the problem
causing them.
Bye
