Even in a situation like that, there should have been SOME fans not in 
costume - photographers, the people running the masquerade, significant 
others, etc.

Nice try at explaining it away, but I take it as just lazy thinking on the 
part of the E.R. producers: Fans = fat zanies in costume.

And the guy doing the Spock ears: I've been in fandom almost 30 years, and 
I've never even heard of anyone doing something like that.
