Is this the official story? The truth is that NASA crashed a
probe over that face to destroy it, and then took the second
picture. They even invented a myth about the Evil of
using metric units to justify that.

Of course this is a joke - but it's even harder to admit
that a multi-million dollar probe was lost because some
jerk was still thinking in feet and miles :-)
