Ummm, because liberal-leaning humanist urbanites are "the Enemy" in the
culture war (as defined by such Repubs as Helms, Lott, Bennett, etc.).  We
are evil, the threat to Biblical values.  (Gooooooooo Evil!)

To Bush's credit, he hews less to such extreme views than the leaders of
his party.
