I'm pregnant and out of a job. No one in their right mind would hire me at this
moment except for dirty and/or unskilled short time labour. I have a BA in
analytical chemistry and a Masters degree in electrochemistry with a few years
of practical experience with project management in the field of materials
sciences, surface sciences, electrochemistry and metallurgy in relation to
surface treatment and optical evaluation, to be desirable for any technical
oriented company. Besides that, I've also been doing some IT systems management
for a medium sized network and been a member of the faculty council. So I'm not
what you'd call unskilled. But after the birth of the little one (only 15 to 17
weeks of company time left 'till then) I'll be away for a three month maternity
leave. Being pregnant simply isn't good advertising to get a new job, no matter
what skills you have or the education you were given.
So it looks like economy is on your side. I currently only get 70% of minimum
wage (a drop in net income of more then 60%) with future prospects of earning
the minimum wage for a 36 to 40 hour work week of unskilled labour, because I
was stupid enough to want a child and didn't have the luck to first get a job
for life. <shrug>
