considering the possibility of permanent damage, and how that could
affect your livelihood - can you afford not to? (most metropolitan
areas have clinics that charge on a sliding scale, according to your
income.)

get a detailed understanding of exactly what is going on - which
pretty much requires a doctor visit - and maybe even a specialist. in
addition to following the physicians advice spend a few minutes every
day thinking very silly thoughts - based on that solid understanding
of what the damage is and how it needs to heal - about how your body
is _properly healing_.
do not stay in one position for very long - squirm, stand up,
stretch, walk around for a couple of minutes, etc. (a major part of
the problem of repetitive motion is that the repetitions are done
consecutively.)
the keyboard should be about the same height, or a bit lower, as
your elbows - you might consider a lapboard to put it on.

        good luck!

        cheers,
