Presently reading _The Business_ by Iain Banks (fiction) and _As We Know It_
by Marek Kohn (non-fiction.) The former is marketed as a non-sf Banks
(although it probably fits tidily into the alternate-history subgenre) about
an international semi-secret organisation (The Business) whose origins
predate Christianity and (not a spoiler since it on the book jacket) is
trying to buy a small country to get a seat on the UN. The latter is by a
science journalist and is about 'coming to terms with an evolved mind':
evolutionary psychology / sociobiology.

Recently finished: _Cryptonomicon_ by Neal Stephenson and _Darwin Among The
Machines_ by George Dyson.

On the heap: _Consilience_ by Edward O Wilson and _The Naked God_ by Peter F
Hamilton (in one pb volume).
