Interesting - I never actually tried that.... If the VCR can record
a signal from the television I would think that there would be a way
to send in from the tape just the information that the VCR would
record from the TV.

If I set the CD up in a room with good acoustics and set up a couple
of microphones I am sure I can get a good copy of something, no
matter what the encryption is.

My entire point is that no matter what barriers are put in the way
of 'ordinary users' making unapproved copies there is inherently no
way of preventing someone who really wants to from making or
acquiring an unapproved copy. If I can't do it, I can probably find
someone who can...and possibly find a book that will tell me how to
make a decent copy. And all it takes is for one copy to be made, and
once it is it can be duplicated almost flawlessly ad infinitum. (an
'illegal' copy only has to be as good as you're willing to pay for,
or put the effort into making. lots of movies look just fine in black
and white, and not every song needs to be heard in stereo in order to
be worth listening to - if the price is right.)
