The death penalty is definitely something we need to work on. I used to be for it because I didn't think there was any justification for allowing the animals that committed atrocities alive. But it's much more complicated than that. The disturbing cases in Illinois that prompted a Republican, death penalty advocate to shut that state's death row down. The racial component wherein a larger percentage of black murderers are put to death than whites. Minors and mentally retarded people put to death. The feeling that I get that the death penalty really boils down to vengeance and little else. Doug
