I'd have to concur with Brett that in all my extensive meanderings around this
land I've never seen higher numbers - 6 & 8 are far and away the most common. I
have something in the back of my mind about telegraph line crews and base
camps... Very vague, but I'm guessing that they never worked much more than 10 or
so miles from a base camp before they moved it and the whole process started
again. There are highways in Queensland that have many crossings of 6 mile creek
over hundreds of miles, obviously different creeks with the same name...
Never seen a 9.6 kilometre creek sign - doesn't have the same ring to it...
