I've heard a few stories that involved poor maintenence of braking systems
on their trucks.

Now, Dan and his father have rented U-Hauls for moves that I was involved
with twice, and there wasn't a problem with the U-Haul in either case, but
if it had been up to me the second time, we would have gone with Ryder.
(There were enough other problems on both moves that a little thing like
slightly flaky brakes still wouldn't have been the biggest problem.  Like
having a really bad signal for when to pull over, and all the people we'd
done moving favors for over a 3-year period, save one, either moving
themselves or helping to move someone else that weekend.  Next time we're
hiring pros....)
