        that would largely have kept the statement from _appearing_ to be
suggesting that Chinese are 'somehow different from the rest of us'. 
        i do note that since there are people who call themselves 'Chinese'
(and who are referred to others as 'Chinese') living in Taiwan,
Indonesia, Vietnam, Australia, Britain, France, the U.S., Canada, and
elsewhere the term 'Chinese' does not clearly describes any political
grouping. (certainly not any 'non-racial' grouping.) hence my
interest in clarifying what was meant - which has apparently opened
its own 'can of worms' - but that is for tomorrow, now i'm off to
enjoy the rest of my birthday!
