You mean like how we came to Europe to clean up the messes in 1917 and 1941?
You mean like those messes we had to clean up? No, they weren't entirely
altruistic actions; few things that people or nations do are. But there we
were, shovel and pail in hand, sweeping up alongside you. Is it wrong to
ask you to do the same?

I'm no jingoistic uber-patriot like some of my fellow Americans, but I can
only take so much of this. Let me ask you something, Jeroen. Let's say,
for the sake of argument, a civil conflict broke out in the Netherlands.
What country outside of your immediate neighbors would be the first one to
say "Is there anything we can do to help?" Hmm, let's think about that,
what country has the means and the *desire* to help its allies at a moment's
notice, what country will go to bat for democracy anywhere, what
country...what country...any guesses?
