I want to be very quick to denounce Falwell, not just as a member of Brin-L,
but as an active, committed Christian. I think Dan Minette did us a real
service by pointing out the psychology of self-blame, that it is born of an
insecure desire for control. Falwell has done a great disservice to
Christianity, God and our country. There is nothing of faith in his words.
I have always been offended and disturbed by Falwell's presumption, this
goes over the top. Our pastor denounced this in the strongest possible
terms at church this morning -- and I am sure that the same thing happened
in the vast majority of churches in America today.

To those of you who question Christianity, to those who would regard Falwell
as a Christian leader, please let me make it as clear as possible that he
does not speak for the vast majority of Christians, whatever their political
beliefs. I do not believe that he speaks for God. And, I have to add,
shame on Fox for putting him on television during this crisis. As I flipped
channels these last few days, I was startled to see him there.

I *pray* that the religious right, however one might define it, abandons him
as a leader, so that the media doesn't even consider his point of view worth
repeating.

Nick
