Almost everyone I have talked to, even in religious circles has been
gravely disturbed by these comments. In fact, I understand that Fox was
overwhelmed with phone calls as soon as the comments were aired (which
presumably means that they came from the type of people who actually watch
'The 700 Club.'). (I should note: when Pat Robertson sold his Family
Channel to Fox, part of the contract stipulates that the new Fox Family
Channel is required to air The 700 Club as long as Pat Robertson wants.
Fox has officially put a very large distance between it and Pat Robertson -
but there is nothing that it can do.) Indeed, National Review pulished a
very stinging rebuke of the comments.
In my mind, it is long past time for those two to retreat to the Gulag of
American Politics, from whence they will never be heard from again.
