Jeroen:

On September 11th, forces hostile to the United States
of America declared war on this country. Although the
United States lost the first battle of this war, and
will certainly win the last battle of this war, there
will be many battles in this war. Moreover, the
United States will lose more of those battles.

As terrible as September 11th was, it will likely not
last long as the worst terrorist attack in world
history.

Indeed, yesterday our Attorney-General warned that
there is a "likelihood of additional terrorist
activity.... We think that there is a very serious
threat of additional problems now."

Even worse, White House Chief of Staff said that "I'm
not trying to be an alarmist, but we know that these
terrorist organizations, like al Qaeda, run by Osama
bin Laden and others, have probably found the means to
use biological or chemical warfare, and that is very,
very bad for the world."

Now, perhaps the signifigance of all this is lost on
you, Jeroen. It is not, however, lost on me. It is
definitely in the back of my mind that when the next
battle comes, Washington, DC is as likely of a target
is any. Some day, I could happen to be in a Metro
Train (think Japan), or walking through Union Station
as I do ever day (think Britain), or simply at work in
a fairly obscure Federal Building (think Oklahoma
City) when the violence starts again. And when that
happens, there is actually a frighteningly decent
chance that nobody will ever hear from me again.

If you really have any humanity deep inside that
incredibly bitter shell of a personality you present
to this List, I can only hope that you might finally
figure out the right thing to do.
