I suppose, too, that the Romans didn't make it to the Netherlands is part of
the reasoning. The Netherlands is part of what Ancient Rome labelled
Germania. Then again, they did get into Belgium (I've read "Asterix in
Belgium" so I know that's correct).

I suspect, too, that the coverage of Roman history in my days at school was
more along the lines of one empire (Britain) acknowledging a predecessor
(Rome).
