<< I read a report that he could face charges of treason, murder and conspiracy, but that sounds way out of line to me. If an American kid had enlisted in the Nazi army, would he have been charged with treason and murder? How many Confederate soldiers (just about all of whom were U.S. Americans) were tried for such crimes? >>
There were very few treason trials after the Civil War because Lincoln and Grant didn't want them. However, Jefferson Davis was jailed, and he, Lee, and other prominent Southerners were stripped of their US citizenship. Someone who fought for the Nazis would certainly have been charged with treason. Why wouldn't he? I think Walker could be charged with treason, and I think he should. He was in a situation in which he might have killed US soldiers - how is that not treason? He has the right to his convictions, however abominable, but he also has the responsibility to accept the consequences. It's one thing to be a fanatic Muslim fundamentalist who believes the Taliban were the only true strong Muslim government on Earth; it's another thing to take up arms against your own country. He never renounced his US citizenship, as he certainly could have. That makes his actions treasonous, IMO. Tom Beck Tom Beck "I always knew I'd see the first man on the Moon.
