Well, DB hit the nail on the head in his remarks to Jeroen:

Basically, I'm volunteering to play "maestro." I have some hitherto
unused web space that can be used to "publish" the series, and I'm happy
to use it that way. Now that we have a hint of a beginning of a story, I
think we need to sketch out a rough plot and put together a list of people
willing to contribute.

Also, if we have any seriously detail-oriented people willing to help keep
us consistent with Uplift Universe facts and terminology, that would help.
I've read the Uplift books a couple of times, but it'll be easy to make
mistakes regardless. The books' glossaries should provide some help.

I think the serious/gonzo angle is consistent with what I originally
described: gonzo because our goal is to have fun, but serious enough to
provide some suspense and to keep the action moving forward. I also think
that, since we're SF fans, we should feel at liberty to explore SFinal
aspects of the Uplift Universe if a nifty or thoughtful idea occurs.

For consistency of feel We should adopt the DB trademark style of focusing
on particular points of view. This'll be convenient for another reason: if
it's difficult to think of something to immediately follow the action in
the previous story-section, one can often change to another character's
POV to comment on the situation, introduce a new element, etc.

So here's our current list of volunteers:

Marvin
Doug
Jim
Zimmy
...with Adam and Matt possibly shouting dirty plot twists from the peanut
gallery, unless they too want to enlist? :-)

Anyone else out there interested?

Finally:

Once I have a list of volunteers, I will create a small private e-group
(or yahoo group) so that we can communicate with each other easily without
risking giving away plot points to the list at large. New volunteers will
be welcome to join if interest in the project grows, of course.

Really Finally:

I'm also interested in hearing thoughts and suggestions from everybody.
Now's the time: once we commit to a basic plot it'll be my job to try to
keep us focused on that.
