OK. My turn. Long-time lurker, (very) occasional poster. Let's see....
My name is John M. Horn. I'm 35 years old, live in St. Louis, Missouri. Born and raised in New Jersey. I moved to St. Louis to go to school at Washington University, met my future wife there. She was living three doors down in the same dorm and dating my roommate. I married her and am still friends with the roommate 16 years later. Imagine that! I've been married for 12 years to my beautiful wife Anita. We have two kids, Laura, age 5 3/4, and Andrew, age 2 3/4. We also have one cat, Friday, who is named after Robert Heinlein's novel. You can see some pics of my lovely family at my website http://pages.sbcglobal.net/johnnita. I work for HealthLink, Inc. and have for 12 years. I started at this job a week and a half before I got married. (And I've stuck with both of them ever since!) Right now I'm the "Director of IT Research and Development", whatever that means. I love to read science fiction, of course. I got turned on to Heinlein's juvie novels in 6th grade and haven't looked back since. I'd list my favorite authors but that list changes daily. I also read about all the fantasy that I can find. My favorite book of all time is "The Lord of the Rings". And I'm working my way through all of Agatha Christie's novels one at a time. My favorite authors include: Brin, Tolkien, C J Cherryh, Orson Scott Card... oh I couldn't name them all. (I am also a compulsive list-maker, which I inherited from my mother. I have a list of ever book I have read since September of 1982!) I'm a gamer. I play "Champions" mostly or other games based on the Hero system. Some AD&D and we've dabbled in a few other systems too. I've been playing ever Wednesday night with the same group of guys since before I was married. It's nice to have a wife that understands that gaming is important to me. (I did take some time off when the kids were born but got back into it as soon as I could!) Being from New Jersey, I'm the list's resident Bruce Springsteen nut. I also love: The Beatles, Nils Lofgren, The Dillards, Sarah McLachlan, Dire Straits and many others. Over all, I have a pretty eclectic taste in music. For example, I just ordered 8 CDs from Columbia House. They included: Genesis, the Bee Gees, John Lennon, Carole King, the soundtrack to "O Brother, Where Art Thou", the soundtrack to "The Harder They Come", the Beach Boys, Tori Amos and Dire Straits. How's that for hitting all the bases? (About the only thing I can't stand is Country and Rap/Hip Hop.) I got into David Brin when a college buddy had me read "Startide Rising". I discovered this list when I was trying to contact Brin about my idea of writing an RPG based on "The Postman". I talked to him but nothing ever came of it. (I still think about it once in a while but that's about it...) That's all I can think of... - John H (the other one)
