That means I will have to lie to them and tell them I put an other network 
adapter in my computer. First, the MAC address of the card they gave me is 
stored in the modem; if the modem cannot find a network adapter with that 
MAC address, it will not work. To get it working again, my ISP needs to do 
a remote reset. Second, I cannot tell them I installed a cable modem router 
to share my Internet connection, because the fine print in the Terms of 
Service says that sharing that connection is not allowed.

Oh well, I can live with a little white lie...   :-)

Of course, more and more people hook their cable modem to their home 
network, regardless of what the ToS say; cannot say I blame them, not with 
what UPC/Chello charges for it every month.
