We have a similar setup here, only we're running DSL and not cable
modem. There will be issues with IP addresses that you'll need to take
up with your provider, but other than that, it ought to be doable. If
you send e-mail to my husband (I'm sure you can figure out his address)
and explain who you are and what you're trying to do, he can probably
tell you what software he's using for everything, at least. And you can
check out www.zurg.net (not that there's anything there, really); that's
in our house, networked with the rest of the computers in the house, and
I don't think you can get to any of them. (There's a website that's
hooked up to a system that will try to do so, and we test our machines
there every so often. I don't remember the URL, but again, that's
something Dan will probably be able to help with.)
Oh, and we don't have any *nix systems (much to my disgust; if we end up
with an extra box sometime, I think I *will* take it and set up a system
with some flavor of unix) in the house, everything is M$ OSes. (I think
we have at least 3 different OSes total, but I think the only NT stuff
isn't technically ours, but Autodesk's. I could be wrong about what OS
the server for zurg.net is running, though.)
