> When you combine Castro's > murders with the total destruction of the Cuban economy,
Our embargo may have had some impact on the economy, don't you think? And although Castro has set records for political imprisonments, I'm not aware that he's ever been accused of large-scale murder. I'm not defending Castro, of whom I'm definitely no fan. He's a fine example of using empty promises of democracy to gain power. But let's try to work with facts, rather than exaggerations. > Yet, when Castro allows > people to > flee, thousands do. *Tens* of thousands. Nick Me: Not really, no, I don't think so. The embargo, as far as most of the studies I have seen can tell, has had little or no long-term effect on the Cuban economy, since no one else in the world gives a damn about it. Don't interpret this as a defense of the embargo, which to my mind is astonishingly stupid policy. Although I do wonder why the same people who most hate the Cuban embargo often seem to most want to cut off trade with China. But that's neither here not there. The embargo has many flaws, and one of them seems to be that it is entirely ineffective. Gautam
