The principle remains the same: adding something to the bottom of every message. In a sense, it is advertising too: it is an ad for Brin-L itself. Quite useless, since the only people who will see the ad are the people who are already subscribed. Adding stuff like that can really add up. There are still people who quote entire messages, including the bottom blurb. I have seen messages (on other lists) where the ad showed up for or five times in one single message because of lack of snipping discipline. The actual message almost gets lost in all the URL's.
