If Kevin had specified the OS of the source computer and the OS of the remote computer, the size of the file(s), the type of Internet connections the computers have, and what kind of access he has to the remote computer or whether it belongs to someone else, I would have been likely to give a specific and helpful response. I will spell it out to make this easier. I have my reasons for not saying what I was doing, but I can share. I'm taking a class. The idiots at Penn State bought all these new fancy smanshy computers for the computer labs. The very first thing I said when I saw them was: idiots, they all come equipped with a CDROM, but no zip drives. How are we supposed to get files OFF the damn things? This has been going on for years: a lot of the programs and such we are working on are bigger than 1.44Mb. It's a freaking commuter school but the profs expect us to spend all our time there and only save our work there. (No this isn't a mandate, I'm not breaking any rules trying to send my files home).
That's the nut of it. We have business profs who barely use e-mail and don't understand what the problem is with file size. Lab proctors? Yeah right, they don't know any more then to write down the problem and pass it to the daytime people, you never get an answer.
I want to send files from there to my home computer so I can do work at home. I can burn a CD to take the file back to school. I there is fast internet at the school and DSL here. I CAN put software on the school computers, running 2000, but I can't hook-up a portable zip drive. (Figure that one out. Well I know why, just making a point).
My home is XP. Most times the file will be under 4Mb after compression.
