I'm actually preparing to write a scifi story where the government has
outlawed religious expression (along with any racial references
whatsoever). The point being that a) it doesn't work and b) they live
very dull, bland lives.
I'm living with a girl who's strongly Catholic right now. I don't
understand her, and she doesn't understand me, but we've learned which
subjects to avoid (sex is the biggie) and we get along very well. I also
know she's one of the best people I've ever met. She's doing social work;
she chose to live homeless for a week because she felt she couldn't work
with the underprivledged properly unless she had some idea what they were
going through; she thinks constantly about religion and God and tries to
make herself worthy of the Supreme Being that she sees.
Loose the fanatics, loose people like my roomate. I think I can live with
the fanatics.
