It's not a mutation. Trisomy means that the 21 chromosome
gets a third _copy_. Mutation means that a gene is
alterered.

Yes, it is very difficult to "neutralize" the ill effects of an
extra chromosome in _all_ cells of the body.

the mother's blood) and ultrasound studies
