Sonja and I are going to be scarce for a while on this list.

Last Thursday I found that my ISP (Chello) had disabled my account; when I
called them they told me it was because of an unpaid bill. I will spare you
the details, but the bottom line is that this was caused by the fact that
ever since we moved, their records have been a huge mess. The guy on the
other end of the phone line checked the records, found that the amount I
allegedly owed them was indeed incorrect (it was too high), said he would
pass it on to their Finance Dept., and said that my connection would be
restored as soon as their Finance Dept. had sorted everything out.

This morning my connection still wasn't restored, so I called again. This
time the story was that (after correcting the amount due) I still owed them
almost EUR 200, that I had to pay that first, and that once they had
received it my connection would be restored within three days (XMas
included). I just transferred the amount to their bank account and sent them
a fax message informing them of the payment; now we will have to wait and
see if they actually restore my connection within three days. Given the
speed and efficiency at which Chello work (not to mention their level of
customer service), it could be restored in three days, but it could also
very well take till mid-January... :-(

Meanwhile, I got myself a dial-up account with an other ISP, but given the
speed and cost-per-minute of that connection, it is going to be a almost
completely off-line couple of days (if not weeks).

Anyway, happy whatever-if-anything-you-will-celebrate-this-week! :-)
