Now, is that among true Banks fans?  It certainly sounds like people without a 
predisposition to like Banks aren't so fond of it.  Is there something about it that 
is that off-putting?

I'll add that to the list.  If I ever finish writing the submission to Necromancer 
Games I'm working on, maybe I'll have time for pleasure reading again . . .
