I overheard the tale of one case in Texas where the taxpayers approved a property tax increase so the teachers would be paid more -- and the extra money all went to administrators. The people who'd made the decision in defiance of the intent defended it with "Well, we need to be able to retain good administrators." Sheesh!
Also, I've heard of cases where teachers are not paid enough to be able to
live in the districts in which they're teaching. I think that's a bit much,
personally.
Yup. Silicon Valley. Saw an article on it two years ago.
I understand it can also happen in sections of Dallas/Plano etc.
