I'm too worn out for another long reply but wanted to say that while I don't believe that the Bush administration's efforts are ethically pure, I agree with most of what you said. In my previous response I was lashing out at the general Francophobia exhibited on the list and elsewhere and paid too little attention to the actual discussion.
In short, the question is not whether the US should listen to the advise from other countries concerning how to solve a mutual problem. The question is whether countries like France are actually working towards solving those problems.
