Another topic was about Operational Security--we're certainly not the
only people watching the "show". The bad guys can use the pictures

as

up to the minute targeting information. I would think the on-scene
comanders just gotta HATE this.

Precisely! Thanks.

But, the on-scene commander controls the feed. From looking at when we do and don't get picture, and when there is and is not a background, I'm guessing that the US military has set forth very strict rules and that the local commanders have both general orders and discretion in applying those orders. My personal guess is that less information than we think is available from the feeds.

But there is also that very nice opportunity for planting crucial misinformation. I mean if I were commander in chief I'd really take advantage of the manyfold possibillities for misinforming my enemy. So allowing in the media can be a double edged sword.

It's a double edged sword in other ways as well. Much fuss has been made in the US national media in the last few months about how Pres. Bush has not 'sold' this war to either the American people or the world. Now, as both Iraqi and coalition casualties are shown live on screen we may see more and more voices join the protests. Print and electronic reporters are changing the nature of how wars are fought -- that much is certain.

There was a riot in Spain during a protest yesterday. Saw the footage on CNN this morning. Protests are scheduled around NYC today, including a 'die-in' at Rockefeller Center outside the Today Show window and roving groups of human traffic obstructions down near Wall Street. Any protesters that block NYC traffic are probably putting themselves at serious risk. Would have been safer to declare themselves Red Sox fans in the middle of the 'Bleacher Creature' section of Yankee Stadium. :)
