I'm answering this b/c I think I know what Damon
meant: "Indian fighter" = "fighter of/against Indians"
whereas you, I think, are referring to Native American
soldiers/warriors.  The term "Indian fighter" was much
used in old pulp Westerns (and I think old movie
Westerns too) to refer to a 'tough white man who
fought maraudering Indians on the frontier' -- you
don't hear the term much nowadays, especially given
the more "civilized" way we modern folk view the
government policies of the "Indian wars."
