I am not quite sure how to respond to this without appearing to compare
George W. Bush to Lincoln, which at this moment in history is still
absurd..... but I have always noticed this fascination in American politics
with "qualifications." 

For example, in the 2000 election, much was made of the issue of Bush's vs.
Gore's relative intelligence.   Similar arguments were made about Reagan.
Now it seems to be the difference between serving in Vietnam or in the
National Guard.

Yet, qualifications aren't always what they are cracked up to be.
