We went to AggieCon. Took all the children. I got a lot of compliments
and questions about the babies. All the mothers who saw me were
sympathetic. Well, except maybe Karen Lansdale, but she was laughing at
Kimm, not at me. (Kimm was trying to help Dan with kids while I went to
Joe Lansdale's reading. As Kimm was trying to calm a screaming baby,
she told Karen, "It's all your husband's fault!" And Karen just
laughed.) Catherine grabbed P. N. Elrod's finger and would not let go
at one point. There's something amusing about someone trying to
*reason* a finger out of the hand of a six-month-old. I'm wondering if
Catherine is going to hear about that again in 10 years.... The only
really annoying things about the whole trip were 1) there was something
in the hotel room I was allergic to, and 2) someone decided to throw a
"hall party" between the best bathroom for diaper changes and everything
else. It gets old trying to push a double stroller through a bunch of
people going on about their Goth M&Ms. I got to be somewhat proficient
in handling 2 strollers at once -- push the smaller one, pull the longer
one. Dan & I got good as a team at getting 2 strollers plus ourselves
on and off of elevators. Tommy is a babe magnet, apparently, more than
either of my other children. (He smiles more than the other 2 put
together, it seems....) Andrew saw the babies for the first time, kind
of ironic we all had to go to College Station for that to happen when he
lives in Austin. I haven't been out in public with the babies very
much, I didn't realize first-hand just how fascinating twins are to
children before now. The guy who takes lots and lots of photos didn't
get any good ones of Dan & Tommy on the day they were wearing matching
shirts because Tommy was in a bad mood a lot of that day,
unfortunately. I bought a birthday present for my sister.
