Doc, I want to impose upon you for a second to object to the
description of the Iraq engagement as a "quagmire".
IMO it is more accurate to describe Iraq as a "tar baby".

In a quagmire you just get stuck and sink into it.

With a tar baby, you get stuck, and even if you are able to disengage
the tar is stuck to you and won't come off.

If we could look forward to a disengagement that would not follow us
around for years
(as if we were coated with Teflon), "quagmire" might be more accurate.
