I beg your pardon? As Abraham Lincoln said to General Meade after Gettysburg, "It's all our soil." Their great grandfathers died at Antietam and Gettysburg for _the whole damn country_, to make sure that it stayed one country, to make sure that people stopped saying "The United States are" and started saying "The United States is." To say otherwise is to repudiate the very cause that they fought for.
