I was behind a family voting together on Tuesday. A father, a mother and 2 daughters. The daughters didn't look old enough to vote to me but I guess they were. The father clearly looked like he was *definitely* the head of the household. He looked at the sample ballot on the wall and wrote down on a piece of paper how each of the others should vote and gave it to them. When it was time to hit the voting machines (we are still using the punch card types in Missouri), it was clear that the wife and daughters had *no* idea what they were doing. It must have been the first time any of them had voted. When he finished voting, the father went over and stood behind the daughters and showed them how to vote. The wife happened to be at the machine next to me and she stood there for several minutes doing nothing until the husband came over to her. Again, he stood behind her (and me!) telling her what to do. She didn't seem to understand that she had to put the punch-card ballot *in* the little slot and how to follow the ballot to know where to punch. They were, by the way, Republicans. No, I didn't look how they voted, I saw what was written on one of the little pieces of paper. So there are still a lot of confused people out there. And it doesn't depend on a butterfly ballot or anything else. - jmh _______________________________________________ http://www.mccmedia.com/mailman/listinfo/brin-l
