misery occurs for non-comforming youth of that sect
prior to enforced knowledge of ways to opt out.

The Amish are not nearly as benign as once thought,
BTW; quite a bit of child abuse occurs.  One
particularly nasty case involved a teenage girl having
all her teeth extracted without any anesthesia, for
the "crime" of telling about her sexual abuse.
